AVMA History
The American Veterinary Medical Association, or
AVMA, was established in 1863 to serve as a
non-profit organization for veterinarians.
Currently, the AVMA has nearly 70,000
veterinarians representing all facets of
veterinary medicine, including private practice,
government work, academia, the military,
industry, corporate practice, and veterinary
research. The AVMA offers numerous benefits to
its members, from programs and services to
information resources and continuing education
opportunities. Moreover, the AVMA gives its
members intangible resources in that it advocates
on behalf of its members to the government to
ensure better veterinary legislative and
regulatory practices for veterinary sciences. The
AMVA
is a national veterinarian association which
is dedicated to improving animal and human health
and helping to advance the veterinary health
services profession.
